Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond announces a settlement with the Department of Justice regarding a request for Oklahoma voter registration data.
The State settled the request on behalf of State Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax . The agreement allows Oklahoma to provide its computerized statewide voter registration list in compliance with federal law while maintaining privacy protections. Drummond said the settlement ensures the state continues to follow the law, and Ziriax emphasized that Oklahoma remains committed to upholding election integrity and strengthening voting security.
Under the terms of the settlement, the DOJ will follow the Privacy Act in handling and safeguarding the data and will use the information to evaluate Oklahoma’s compliance with election laws. Drummond highlighted the state’s existing measures, including voter ID requirements, notarization for most absentee ballots, a ban on ballot harvesting, strict absentee ballot deadlines, paper ballots for most voters, post-election audits, and strong voter list maintenance practices.
