The Nowata Fire Department issues a burn ban ahead of anticipated high fire risk weather conditions expected tomorrow and Friday.

The ban only affects the City of Nowata. Nowata County Commissioners will hold a special meeting this afternoon at 1pm to discuss issuing a county-wide burn ban. The National Weather Service says strong southwest winds along with near record high temperatures are expected Thursday afternoon into the early evening hours and into Friday.  Windy conditions are also expected with gusts as high as 35mph.

This afternoon's  meeting will take place at the Nowata County Annex Meeting Room, located at 228 North Maple Street in downtown Nowata.
