Oklahoma's Mullin Confirmed as New Head of Homeland Security

 

Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin is now confirmed as the new Secretary of Homeland Security.

 

Mullin was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Monday on a mostly party-line 54-45 vote. Democrat Senators John Fetterman of Pennsylvania and Martin Heinrich of New Mexico joining their Republican colleagues in approving Mullin's appointment. He replaces outgoing DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, who will officially depart at the end of this month.

 

The 48-year-old Mullin is a member of the Cherokee Nation and has served U.S Congressman from Oklahoma's 2nd District and has served at the state's junior senator since 2023.

 

Governor Kevin Stitt is expected to appoint Bartlesville native Alan Armstrong to replace Mullin in the Senate.
