The City of Caney is set to receive state grant money to help fund the City's Water Project with Coffeyville.
Caney has been awarded $1.57 million dollars through the State Water Plan Fund to help with the construction of the City's connection to Coffeyville's water system. The City applied for the grant last October and the awards were announced this week. The State Water Plan Fund was created in 1989 to provide funding for water projects and programs.
The purpose of the water line project is to help Caney with water issues that came to light during the City's water crisis brought on by a severe drought in the summer and fall of 2023.
The City is currently in the process of obtaining property easements along the proposed 15-mile route of the water line before construction can begin.
