The Kansas Highway Patrol reports responding to four different fatal rollover accidents on Kansas Highways this past weekend.
The first occurred early Friday evening in Jewel County in north central Kansas, where a Ford F-150 pickup truck was involved in a single vehicle crash. The driver 66-year-old Dennis Simonton of Richmond, Missouri, died when he lost control of the truck, causing it to leave the roadway and overturn multiple times.
The second fatal crash also happened on Friday evening just before 6pm in Butler County on the Kansas Turnpike. A southbound Honda Civic left the roadway and overturned, ejecting three of the four men inside the vehicle. The accident claimed the life of 27-year-old Dejuanique Edmondson of Concordia. Two other passengers and the driver were taken to a Wichita hospital with serious injuries.
The third fatal crash took place just before 8pm on Saturday morning in McPherson County on K-61, near the intersection with I-135. 69-year-old Mickey Mitani of Bellvue, Nebraska, died when he failed to negotiate a curve at the on ramp. His car went airborne and landed about 300 feet from the roadway. Mitani was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The fourth fatal accident occurred early on Sunday morning on US-169, about 4 miles south of Paola. A Ford F-250 hauling a trailer lost control and overturned in the median. The driver 47-year-old Jacob Vonweller of Osawatomie was killed while his female passenger suffered serious injuries. Both were ejected from the vehicle in the crash.
