***** Original Story *****
Area fire departments across the area continue to be busy ahead of higher fire danger expected this weekend.
According to the latest from the National Weather Service, a combination of above-normal temperatures, southerly winds and low humidity will result in extreme grassland fire danger tomorrow for part of southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma. Even after an expected cold front, fire danger is still expected to be high on Sunday as well.
Chautauqua and Elk Counties and areas to the north and west are included in a fire weather watch through 7 p.m. Sunday. This means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur, and red flag warnings could be issued. Local fire departments are asking everyone in the area to be careful when burning and to be mindful of anything that could cause a spark.
