Local fire departments have responded to several fires over the last month and high fire risks still continues for the area.

Kansas State Meteorologist Chip Redmond says we are in the heart of our fire season.  Redmond says after relatively light winds this week he does expect winds to pick up this weekend.

Redmond says even on days of light winds when it is okay to do prescribed burns, those burns are going to require more attention. He says those fires are going to hold heat and could have a high chance of rekindling.
