The final severe weather spotter training sessions of the spring 2026 season are coming up in the next week.
Regional National Weather Service offices serving the four-state area including Wichita, Tulsa and Springfield are providing a number of free training presentations for anyone interested in becoming a weather spotter or who just wants to learn more about severe weather.
NWS staff will provide an in depth weather presentation that will engage the audience by teaching them about the different types of storms, the individual storm features that help a person to recognize the storm's potential severity, and how to report hazardous weather and severe weather safety.
There will be a session tonight in Bentonville at the Walmart Auditorium. Next week, includes session on Monday in Iola at the Creitz Recital Hall - Bowlus Basement , Tuesday in Winfield at Cowley Cinema 8 , Wednesday in Pittsburg at PSU Bicknell Family Center , and Thursday in Independence. All sessions begin at 6:30pm at Memorial Hall.
