Montgomery County is set to receive state funding to complete a major road project south of Coffeyville.
The Kansas Department of Transportation has announced that the county has been awarded $1.5 million through the High Risk Rural Road program for pavement marking and asphalt widening on South Buckeye, from James School Road to the state line.
The High Risk Rural Roads Program is a federal-aid initiative aimed at enhancing safety and reducing crash rates on rural roads. It targets roads with crash rates higher than the statewide average or those with the potential to exceed this average.
Through the program, Montgomery County will be required to provide a match of $260,000. The South Buckeye project is one of 13 similar projects state-wide that were selected to receive funding.
