Multiple people are seriously injured in an afternoon accident in Cherokee County.
The accident occurred Monday at around 3:15pm at the intersection of Southwest 20th Street and US-166, or about 7 miles west of Baxter Springs.26-year-old Timothy Sherman of Miami was traveling southbound on 20th Street when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with US-166. There, his 1993 Chevy C-15 was struck by an oncoming 2021 GMC Yukon driven by 40-year-old Jacob Crawford of Copan. Sherman was seriously injured in the crash. Crawford suffered minor injuries, but three passengers in his truck were seriously injured as well. They have been identified as 38-year-old Jordan Crawford of Copan, 21-year-old Gavin Stimpson of Caney, and a 14-year-old female also from Caney. A 17-year-old female from Niotaze also received minor injuries.
All were taken to Mercy Hospital in Joplin for treatment.
