City of Independence Approves Lease Purchase of New Pumper Truck for Fire Dept.

The Independence City Commission approves the purchase of a new truck for the Independence Fire Department.

At last week’s City Commission meeting, Independence Fire Chief Aaron Cook told the commission that the department’s current pumper truck is showing wear and tear and is no longer adequate for the fire department’s need. Cook says the addition of the new truck would improve the department’s ability to respond to fires.

The nearly $900,000 purchase price comes at a time when the department is finishing the payments on another vehicle. City Finance Director Lacey Lies says the purchase should not have a significant impact on the City’s budget.

Commissioners unanimously approved the purchase of the 2026 Spencer Manufacturing Pumper Stock Build 1697 with a 1,000 gallon tank and a 2,000 GPM pump. The truck is expected to be delivered to the department in early May.
