Wilson County Rural Fire responds to two weekend reports of grass fires.

The first call came in just before 5pm on Friday night. Units were paged for a reported grass fire in the northern part of Wilson County. Firefighters conducted some backfires and were able to bring the blaze under control.

Units were called into service again on Saturday afternoon around 2pm for a report of another grass fire east of Neodesha. That fire was determined to be a controlled burn that had not been called in. Wilson County Rural Fire reminds residents, according to the law, controlled burns must be brought to the attention of County Dispatchers. Wilson County residents who plan controlled burns must report them by calling 620-378-2369. Reporting planned burns helps fire agencies know where and when planned burns will be conducted and keeps fire crews and trucks ready to respond in case of an actual emergency.
