A recent traffic stop in Crawford County leads to three arrests and the seizure of methamphetamine.
Last Thursday, a police officer in Mulberry, KS, located about 8 miles northeast of Frontenac, observed a driver commit a traffic violation. The detective identified the driver as 63-year-old John L. Pelican of Pittsburg and his two passengers as 46-year-old Rosanna I. Closs and 41-year-old Tonya L. Burger, both also of Pittsburg. Closs had an active warrant for her arrest and was taken into custody.
A K-9 officer responded to the scene with his handler and conducted an open-air sniff. The dog then alerted to narcotics in the vehicle and a probable cause search was conducted. During this search, drug paraphernalia consistent with the use of methamphetamine was located. The investigation led to the discovery of approximately 30 grams of methamphetamine that was located on Pelican's person. Both Pelican and Burger were then placed under arrest and transported to the Crawford County jail.
Investigators with the Pittsburg Police Department then applied for and were granted a search warrant for a related residence in in the 1400 block of North Michigan Street in Pittsburg. Agents from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation joined Pittsburg Police and Crawford County Sheriff’s deputies in the search which revealed large amount of suspected methamphetamine was seized, along with other controlled substances, firearms, suspected stolen property, and drug paraphernalia.
