Deep Fission Begins Drilling at Parsons Site

Deep Fission announces that drilling has begun on its first acquisition well located east of Parsons.

The well is the first step in the installation of a modular pressurized water reactor that will be installed in a borehole one mile underground at the Great Plains Industrial Park. The well will be drilled to a depth of approximately 6,000 feet and will have a diameter of roughly eight inches. It is the first of three planned wells and represents the initial phase of site characterization and engineering validation.

Deep Fission has also completed construction of the drilling pad at the Parsons site, marking an infrastructure milestone as the company moves from the engineering phase of the project into field development. This acquisition well will help the company gather geological, hydrological, and thermal data to inform the final engineering design, safety analysis, and regulatory planning on the project.

Deep Fission is a California-based company founded in 2023 by father-daughter team Liz and Rich Muller. The Parsons reactor is the first for the company as part of the Department of Energy’s Reactor Pilot Program.
