Missouri Man Sentenced in Baxter Springs Double Killing

A Missouri man is sentenced in the 2022 shooting deaths of two Baxter Springs men.

45-year-old Kenneth Butts of Independence, Missouri, received a sentence of two consecutive life sentences for the November 28, 2022, shooting deaths of Jeremy Murphy and Craig Guinn. Each sentence carries a minimum of 50 years before parole eligibility, meaning that Butts will have to serve 100 years plus sentences on his remaining counts before he is eligible for parole.

Butts was convicted in January of two counts of first-degree murder for the killings in addition to one count of attempted first degree murder for the shooting of Seth Guinn.

Butts was sentenced in Cherokee County District Court and will be transported to the Kansas Department of Corrections to begin serving his sentence.
