Daylight savings time begins this weekend.
Residents are reminded to set clocks forward by one hour tomorrow night as the official time change happens at 2am on Sunday morning. The annual “spring forward” has happened since 2007, when the time change was set to occur on the second Sunday of March For the 20 years prior to 2007, the time change was set for the first Sunday of April.
Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. first began in 1918 in an effort to conserve fuel during World War I. It was used again during the second World War for the same reason.
Only two U.S. states do not observe the time change: Hawaii and Arizona, with the exception of the Navajo Nation.
Phones and other digital devices should automatically change on their own. The time change is also a good time of year to check batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms to ensure they are in good working order.
