Fredonia Warns of Slight Increase to Charge on March Utility Bills

The City of Fredonia is warning residents about a slight increase to a charge on their March utility bills.

City Officials says there will likely be a higher than normal Fuel Adjustment Charge on March statements due to January usage. The higher Fuel Adjustment Charge is a result of energy market volatility within the Southwest Power Pool during the severe winter weather event that occurred in late January.

The Fuel Adjustment Charge is a standard component of utility bills and can fluctuate depending on the actual cost of fuel and purchased power required to supply electricity to customers. The winter storm that impacted the Midwest in late January caused wholesale electricity prices within the Southwest Power Pool to spike significantly above average.

While most utility customers will not see a dramatic increase in their total bill, the highest increases are between 5% and 10% from the amount due on February’s statement compared to the amount due in March.

Both online and paper bills were sent out to Fredonia customers late last week. Anyone with questions is asked to contact City Hall at 620-378-2231.
