The Deep Fission company schedules a public meeting to address citizen questions and concerns about a proposed underground nuclear reactor to be constructed at the Great Plain Industrial Park east of Parsons.
The California-based Deep Fission company announced plans in December to place a small modular pressurized water reactor in a borehole one mile underground at the Industrial Park. The project is part of the Reactor Pilot Program from the U.S. Department of Energy and was approved by the Labette County Commission. It is also supported by the Parsons City Commission.
Parsons residents have expressed concerns about the project. Those concerns led to the formation of a community group called the Prairie Dog Alliance that has held several townhall meetings about the project.
Deep Fission has been in the process of meeting with Parsons area officials but has now opted for more transparency with the public. The meeting will be held on Thursday, March 12th at the Wall Event Center, located at 2605 Main Street in Parsons. The meeting will begin at 5pm.
