The Montgomery County Commission hears quarterly updates from the County Treasurer's Office and from Juvenile Community Corrections.
Treasurer Mandi Hargis appeared before the commission this week to report on current work in her office. Hargis says certain fees at both the Coffeyville and Independence tag offices are in effect to help offset financial shortfalls
Director of Juvenile Corrections Kenneth Fecke also updated commissioners on some pending updates to state laws. Kansas House Bill 2329 is currently making its way through the law-making process. The bill would increase the criminal penalties for juvenile who use a firearm in the commission of a crime. Fecke says a recent amendment to the bill would also prevent juvenile offenders from being housed in foster care with juvenile victims.
The Montgomery County Commission meets every Monday at 9am in Independence.
