A Parsons man and repeat offender is facing possession of a weapon charges.
According to the Parsons Police Department, officers responded to the area of South 31st Street and Frisco Avenue. Officers made contact with Kevin Bellamy, who was in possession of a machete, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Police confirmed Bellamy was on parole at the time and prohibited from possessing weapons. During transport, officers reported Bellamy manipulated his restraints and ingested an unknown item. EMS was contacted, and officials say his vital signs were stable. A review of in-car camera footage later showed Bellamy removing a small white object from his waistband and placing it into his mouth. A subsequent search of the patrol vehicle located a green coin purse believed to have contained additional marijuana.
As a result of the investigation, Bellamy was booked into the Labette County Jail on charges of criminal possession of a weapon, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and interference with law enforcement for destruction of evidence.
