The Coffeyville City Commission approves the first reading of an ordinance that would increase fiber internet speed and increase rates at the same time.
Director of Electric Services Chris Weiner presented the proposal to the commission. Under the new fee schedule, the lowest tier for residential rates would increase from $60 to $65 per month. Commissioner Alec Hendryx says, even with the increase, it's a good deal for customers.
City Manager Ben Brubaker added that the City must be fiscally responsible, even if that means facing some hard truths. He says the City will have to replace some expensive infrastructure over the next 25 years.
The first reading passes with only Commissioner Mike Golden voting no.
In other business at last night's meeting, commissioners approved the purchase and installment of a new gas breaker near the CVR Nitrogen plant. The company will reimburse the City for the cost.
