Firefighters from multiple departments respond to a grass fire near Thayer.

 

Units from Neosho County and Wilson County Rural Fire were called to a location in rural Neosho County, west of Thayer around 3:30pm Monday, February 23, 2026. Firefighters were called to the area for a large grass fire that expanded from burning brush piles. Responding units were on the scene for about an hour.

 

Authorities remind residents that brush piles can smolder for days and that anyone who has been burning during the past few weeks should check on the fire location to ensure fires do not rekindle.
