The Labette County Sheriff's Office is warning residents and the families of county jail inmates in particular about a new scam that is making the rounds.
This scam targets the families of individuals who have recently been arrested and jail in the Labette County Jail. Scammers are calling family members and claiming that an inmate can be bonded out for a specific amount of money. This is not a legitimate operation. The Labette County Jail never accepts Walmart gift cards, prepaid cards, or other non-cash equivalents as payment for bonds. Legitimate bonds are typically arranged by the inmate contacting a family member or a licensed bail bondsman directly.
The Sheriff’s Office warns not to give out any personal information and not to provide money to these scammers. Anyone receiving a call like this should hang up and call the Labette County Jail to verify bond status.
If you have received a call like this, report it to the L-C-S-O at (620) 795-2565.
