Multiple fire departments in northeast Oklahoma respond to a large grass fire between Dewey and Copan.
Fire crews responded to the scene on West 1200 Road in Washington County after reports of a large grass fire in the area. Responding units conducted a burnout operation to secure a control line in an effort to bring the blaze under control. The tactic was used to help prevent the fire from rekindling and spreading further over the next few days of extreme fire danger.
The Dewey and Copan Fire Departments responded to the call with assistance from the Washington County Fire Department.
Fire officials remind residents that the current dry conditions combined with high winds mean fire can quickly spread out of control. Anyone who sees smoke or flames should report it to authorities immediately.
