A Fredonia man is in serious condition after being hit by a truck while walking along a Fredonia Street.

25-year-old Trenton Smith was taken to a Wichita hospital yesterday (Tuesday) after he was hit by a pickup truck while walking along Washington Street just west of the roundabout. The accident occurred just before noon, when a 1997 Chevy 1500 driven by 69-year-old Roger Walker of Fredonia struck Smith as he walked along the street. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident happened when Smith's hat blew off his head and he went into the street to retrieve it.
