The Independence City Commission approves the purchase of the Martin Estates homes by the Independence Housing Authority.
The move came at Thursday's commission meeting. Executive Director of the Independence Housing Authority April Nutt says the purchase helps her department fulfill its goals.
The $900,000 purchase would transfer ownership to the City which would hold the homes in the Housing Authority's name. Nutt says the existing development is located in the northwest part of the the City.
The purchase was approved on a unanimous vote. In other business, the City continued its efforts to address the issue of dangerous and unsafe structures. Approval was given to continue with condemnation process on five properties and public hearing dates were set for two others. The owner of another property on the list addressed the commission and was given an extension until May 28 to make improvements.
