Independence firefighters respond to reports of an evening structure fire.
Independence Fire and EMS was called to the scene in the 300 block of North 17th Street just before 10pm Thursday night after receiving a call of a garage on fire. When crews arrived at the location, they discovered a detached garage with moderate smoke coming from the structure that was located behind the primary residence. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze and kept it from spreading to the home and other nearby structures.
The fire is thought to have started due to an overloaded electrical outlet or a surge protector in the garage. No injuries were reported.
