A former employee of the Allen County Jail in Iola is accused of battery against an inmate.

The Allen County Attorney's Office has filed a charge of battery against former civilian employee Stephanie Vest. The charges stem from a complaint filed in December alleging misconduct at the Allen County Jail. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation was called in to investigate the claims made against Vest. K-B-I presented the findings of its investigation into the matter to County Attorney Brandon Cameron.

Vest was placed on administrative leave during the investigation and has since been terminated from her position. The alleged incidents occurred in 2024 and 2025.
