USD 286 in Sedan is alerting the public to a scam involving fake texts claiming to come from members of the district’s Board of Education.

District officials say they have received multiple reports from community members who were contacted by text messages identifying the sender as a Board of Education member and asking questions or requesting information. USD 286 says these messages are not legitimate. Members of the School Board are not sending texts to community members requesting information, and any message claiming to be from a board member in that manner should be considered a scam.

Residents who receive one of these messages are advised not to respond and not to provide any personal information. Officials recommend deleting the message and reporting it as spam through your mobile provider. Anyone with questions or concerns is encouraged to contact the district at (620)725-3187.
