USD 447 Cherryvale-Thayer Schools receive a donation to help clear student lunch debt.

 

At this month's school board meeting, District Superintendent Travis Githens informed the Board that a community member had donated $2,000 to clear student lunch debt at Lincoln Central. Githens stated that he was impressed by the community's generosity and willingness to help. However, he says instead of wiping existing debt, the money will be used to sponsor lunch days.

 

This allows the funds to be used for the original purpose without abusing the donors kindness. Githens says, on an average year, district lunch debt can really add up.

 

Githens adds that most people who end up with d ebt do their best to pay it off and the district does its best to work with those families.
