Units from multiple area fire departments respond to a large grass fire near Longton.

 

Around 1:15 Monday afternoon, Elk County Rural Fire was dispatched to a large grass fire that began in Chautauqua County and extended into Elk County southeast of the City of Longton. The fire burned nearly 4,000 acres of grassland. The area included several structures, but quick work by responding units prevented the loss of any of the buildings.

 

Additional units from from the Louisburg Township Rural Fire Department in Elk City, Independence Rural Fire, Cherryvale Rural Fire, and Montgomery County Rural Fire District #1 assisted on the call.
