Demolition Off Table for FKHS Natatorium; Memorandum of Agreement with Pool Group

The USD 445 School Board votes to enter into a memorandum of agreement with the Friends of the Charlesworth Pool, LLC. to move forward with renovation of the natatorium at the high school.

After months of back and forth on the fate of the pool, the board has now rejected all bids for demolition of the structure and will proceed with bid documents for the project. Superintendent Dr. Craig Correll says he appreciates all the work that led to this moment.

Board Member Cindy Price notes that the filters failed two years ago this month, which promoted the initial closure of the facility before problems with the roof were discovered. She says this issue has dominated her time on the board so far.

Members of the pool group were in attendance at the meeting and thanked the board before they went into executive session. Going forward, the board approved hiring Incite Design Studios to develop scope and bid documents for the renovation project. The project has previously been estimated at $2.4 million, with $1.6 pledged by the pool group and $800,000 coming from the district.
