Four people are injured in a near head-on collision near Baxter Springs.
The accident happened around 2:30 Thursday afternoon on US-69 about a mile north of the junction with US-166, or about five miles west of Baxter Springs. A 2024 Hyundai Elantra driven by 72-year-old Janet Fisher of Wichita was northbound on US-69 when she attempted to pass another vehicle. In the southbound lane, she encountered a Ford F-350 pickup towing a trailer and driven by 56-year-old Troy Sullivan of Pittsburg. Sullivan attempted to avoid the head-on collision by veering onto the shoulder. As Fisher tried to return to the northbound lane, she struck the F-350 on the driver's side.
Fisher suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Sullivan and two passengers in his vehicle sustained minor injuries and were taken to Joplin's Freeman Health. A third passenger in the truck was uninjured.
