Oklahoma Grandmother Sentenced in Double Homicide

An Oklahoma grandmother is sentenced in the 2024 double homicide of two Kansas women.

56-year-old Tifany Adams was sentenced last week for her role in the deaths of 27-year-old Veronica Butler and 39-year-old Jilian Kelley, both of Hugoton, Kansas. In March 2024, the two women left Kansas to travel to the Oklahoma panhandle to visit Butler's children. The victims’ vehicle was later found abandoned near Highway 95 and Road L, south of Elkhart, Kansas, in rural Texas County. On April 14, the O-S-B-I announced the bodies of the women had been discovered. At that time, four suspects were taken into custody with a fifth man arrested ten days later.

All five were charged with first-degree murder in the case.

In October 2025, Adams pleaded no contest to nine charges in the case. As a result, Adams has been sentenced to two sentences of life without the possibility of parole, two five-year sentences for unlawful removal of a dead body, and two seven-year sentences for unlawful desecration of a human corpse. The sentences are set to run concurrently. Of the four remaining defendants, two have entered guilty pleas in the case while the two others will be tried in late 2026 and early 2027.
