Parsons City Commission Clarifies Position on Golf Course, Deep Fission

The Parsons City Commission clarifies its position on two recent major developments.

The first is the renovation of the Katy Golf Course. The commission approved the issuance of $4 million in industrial revenue bonds last month to help with the renovation that would improve golfing facilities and the restaurant at the club. The bonds are acting as a pass-through for the funding and will not cost Parsons taxpayers any money. Commissioner Leland Crooks says the City is not responsible for any of the cost.

Commissioners also emphasized that the City also had no hand in the selection of Parsons Great Plains Industrial Park as the location for the Deep Fission underground reactor. Mayor Kevin Cruse says, while the City supports the effort, it had no say in the decision.

In other business at this week's Parsons City Commission meeting, commissioners approved the acceptance of a High Risk Urban Road grant from KDOT to provide new signs at 15 intersections across the city and also heard a report from Safe Haven Outreach Mission about warming center use during the recent cold weather.
