The Kansas Department of Transportation announces approval of funding for a major sidewalk project in Independence.
The project would fund sidewalks and bicycle paths along West Main Street from Peter Pan Road to 21st Street, on Peter Pan Road from Main to Labette Health, and on Laurel Street from Main to the railroad tracks. The project is intended to improve pedestrian safety in high traffic areas of the city.
The $1.1 million project was awarded to J. Graham Construction of Coffeyville.
