The State of Kansas begins 2026 with good economic news as January tax receipts come in above estimates.
Total tax collections last month were $988.2 million, a total that is 1.2% above estimates and nearly 5% higher than last year. The increase was driven up upticks in the collection of both individual and corporate income taxes. Individual income tax receipts were up 1.4% while corporate collections rose by about 23%.
Combined retail sales and compensating use tax receipts were $337.8 million, which is 3.5% below the estimate.
