Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against CVR Energy

A new class-action lawsuit is formally filed against CVR Energy.

The case, Vest v. CVR Energy, Inc., was filed January 26th in the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas. Plaintiffs John Vest, Margaret Culton, and William Yates of Coffeyville allege personal injury claims against CVR Energy, CVR Partners, and Coffeyville Resources subsidiaries tied to refining and fertilizer operations. Court records show the case will be tried in Topeka.

The lawsuit follows previous legal action involving CVR Energy. In 2022, the company agreed to a nearly 79-million-dollar settlement related to claims of market manipulation involving CVR Refining. In 2023, CVR Energy also entered a consent decree requiring more than 23-million dollars in penalties and compliance measures to resolve Clean Air Act violations. As of now, no response from the defendants has been filed, and the case remains in its early procedural stages.
