The Kansas Department of Transportation announces the replacement of a railroad bridge on US-59 near Parsons to begin this month.
According to KDOT, the 285-foot bridge runs above the Union Pacific Railroad tracks on US-59 about a mile north of US-400/US-59 interchange near Parsons. Work on the project is scheduled to begin on Monday, February 23rd. The official 40-mile, signed detour will be in place that week that will reroute traffic around the work zone via US-169 and K-47 in order to maintain road safety regarding vehicle weight and maintenance concerns.
The new three-span bridge will be 413 feet long with 12-foot driving lanes and 10-foot shoulders. KDOT awarded the $7.9 million construction contract to Bridges Inc., of Newton. The project is funded through KDOT’s 10-year Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program.
The project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2027.
