The Kansas Department of Children and Families announces $10 million in funding for a housing support program for those at risk of homelessness.
D-C-F has awarded the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation or K-H-R-C a $10 million housing support grant to assist low-income Kansas families at risk of or experiencing homelessness across all 105 Kansas counties. The program is funded annually with $5 million in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families dollars over two years. It will begin on July 1, 2026, and run through June 30, 2028, with two one-year renewal options.
K-H-R-C, together with the Kansas Statewide Homeless Coalition, City of Topeka, United Way of the Plains, and Metro Lutheran Ministry, will help eligible families secure and maintain stable housing as part of the organization's mission to expand access to safe, affordable housing statewide.
“Quality, affordable homes enable families and communities to thrive,” said Doug Wallace, KHRC's Emergency Solutions Grant Manager, who will oversee the program. “Stably housed Kansans experience better health and safety outcomes, achieve greater educational and professional success, and enjoy increased economic prosperity. Thanks to this partnership, more Kansans will experience the life-changing benefits of a safe and stable home.”
