A gas leak is reported at an apartment complex in Chetopa.

 

According to the Chetopa Police Department, last night police were called to the Bellmore Apartments near the alley after reports of a strong gas odor . Officers responded immediately and coordinated with the Fire Department to assess the situation.

 

After the initial assessment, the Police Department contacted Atmos Energy along with building management. Atmos sent a representative to the scene who conducted testing. Later in the evening, the issue was diagnosed as a Grade 1 gas leak.

 

Atmos immediately called out a repair crew, who began digging and working on the gas line last night. Crews will continue working through the morning until the leak is fully repaired and the area is safe.
