City of Independence Receives Grant For New Traffic Signs

The City of Independence receives a KDOT grant to improve visibility at high-risk intersections.

The High Risk Urban Road grant will provide the city with new stop signs, stop ahead signs, reflective sheeting for posts, and thermoplastic stop bars. City Engineer John Garris says the puirpose is to improve traffic safety.

The total cost of the project is around $5,000, but the City is only responsible for installation and upkeep. Garris says, the expensive part will be covered by KDOT.

The signs will be installed at seven intersections: at 10th and Taylor; 20th and Sycamore; Penn and Poplar, and 21st and West Oak. They will also be located at the intersections of Laurel and 13th, 17th, and 19th Streets.
