The City of Altamont is moving forward on a major public works project.
The $1.5 million project would install a sidewalk to connect Labette County High School to a local retail food establishment. The project is fully funded by a grant through the Kansas Department of Transportation. The City of Altamont is responsible for the relocation of utilities and for right-of-way acquisition. At last week’s meeting of the Altamont City Council, City Administrator LeaAnn Myers updated council members on the progress. She says easement work is underway.
The City has also set aside funds to move gas meters impacted by the project.
In other business, City Attorney Robert Myers had a lengthy discussion with property owners who had been notified via a phone call that their property would be up for determination of a public hearing due to safety concerns with the structure. The council then voted to set a public hearing date of March 12th for three properties, excluding the one that had been discussed.
Mayor and Assistant Fire Chief Richard Hayward also gave a yearly report from the Fire Department.
