Fatal Traffic Accidents Down to Start Year

There’s some good news for Kansas to start the new year.

So far in 2026, the total number of fatal traffic accidents is down 35% from last year. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 13 people have lost their lives in traffic crashes so far in 2026 as compared to 17 deaths during the same period in 2025. K-H-P reminds Kansans to buckle up, drive sober, obey posted speed limits and avoid distractions when behind the wheel.

The Kansas Drive To Zero campaign is a statewide initiative that aims to eliminate fatal and serious injury crashes on all public roads in Kansas.
