Fire crews respond to a structure fire in Howard.
According to the Elk County Rural Fire Department, around 6:30 Saturday morning, the Howard Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 200 block of south Pine in Howard.
Upon arrival, smoke was observed coming from the attic vents and also in the house. The fire was located in the attic over the living room. It was contained to the one room and put out. Part of the ceiling had to be removed with moderate smoke and water damage. The outside temperature during the response was 4 degrees with a wind chill of 15 below zero. Crews believe the cause of the fire was electrical due to an overloaded circuit from space heaters. Local fire departments are reminding residents to be careful with space heaters during this extreme cold.
