Independence Continues to Clean Up Housing

The Independence City Commission continues its work in combating dangerous and unsafe structures in the city.

At last night's meeting, commissioners held public hearings for ten properties and voted to condemn five of those. The other five had shown progress in improving the property and were adjourned until May to allow for further work to be completed. One of those properties on West Chestnut Street will soon see its second life. Lisa Drumeller with Hannah's House Ministries says the location will soon be transformed into a new facility.

Condemnation proceedings were also set in motion for two additional properties, including a house on North 10th Street that was heavily damaged in a fire earlier this month.

In other business, c ommissioners also approved a permit to allow a dog kennel on South 25th Street.
