***** Original Story *****
The much-anticipated winter storm is on the way this weekend for the four-state area.
Dangerously cold wind chills could reach 15 degrees below zero for the region, while accumulating snowfall is expected across the area. The winter storm watch has now been extended north to include much of the state of Kansas, while a cold weather advisory has been issued for Kansas and Missouri, and an extreme cold watch for Oklahoma and Arkansas. Storm impacts are expected to be greater along the Kansas-Oklahoma line. A winter storm warning has now been issued ahead of the storm for
central Oklahoma, while a winter storm watch remains in effect for the four-state area.
Snow is expected to start between 8 p.m. and midnight tomorrow, and end between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Sunday. While snowfall forecasts continue to change, the latest estimates show the immediate four-state area including Coffeyville could see between 6 and 10 inches of snow, while slightly less is expected to the east of Montgomery County.
Starting tonight, temperatures are expected to stay below freezing through at least Tuesday, with the coldest wind chills around 13 below on Saturday morning for the Coffeyville area.
Moderate impacts to daily life are expected, including hazardous driving conditions. Take action now to prepare for the winter weather and protect vulnerable plumbing from freezing. KGGF will continue to provide updates all weekend in addition to closings and cancellations as needed.
