Plans are underway to replace a critical water line that has failed in Cherryvale.
At last night's City Council meeting, council members and city staff reviewed two bids to boar under the railroad at 6th Street. This new line would replace the broken main that failed recently. Fire Chief Joe Rexwinkle says this is one of the more important water connections in Cherryvale from a firefighting point of view.
The Council approved the low bid of just over $55,600 from Tom's Ditching and Backhoe out of Caney. City Manager Michael Hall still needs to get the needed permits from the railroad to move forward with the project.
In other business, the Council approved the purchase of a road grader not to exceed $17,000, heard the 4th Quarter treasurer's report and discussed appointing a member of the community to represent the city on a hiring subcommittee for the search for a new president of Independence Community College.
