Police in Owasso are continuing their investigation into the cause of a fatal car accident on US-169 on Saturday night.
The accident claimed the lives of Nowata man Terry Hindman and his 18-year-old son Jaxon. Witnesses told investigators that the pickup truck containing the two men began driving erratically and swerving on the roadway shortly before the accident occurred. The vehicle struck and sign and rolled as many as eight times before coming to a rest. Both men were ejected from the truck. Officers say there were no signs of drugs or alcohol at the scene, but that toxicology reports have been ordered to make the final determination.
The accident caused a partial shutdown of US-169 north of Owasso. As police were on the scene, a vehicle drove around the barricades and drove toward the accident scene. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 70-year-old Melinda Coshatt of Oologah. Coshatt admitted to officers that she had been drinking before the incident and had not realized she had driver through a barricade. She was taken into custody and faces a charge of aggravated driving under the influence.
