The Montgomery County Commission will meet today and hear an update on a federal BUILD grant.
The BUILD or Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development grant would come through the U.S. Department of Transportation and would be used to upgrade county roads near the Bartlett soybean plant. The project would pave the current gravel roads, connect County Roads 4400 and 5300, and create truck entrances along US-160 and County Road 4400. Montgomery County applied for the grant in 2025 but did not receive the funds. County Administrator Jonathan Booe will update commissioners on plans to reapply for the grant this year.
Other business at today’s meeting includes a public hearing for the Amended 2026 Budget for the Rural Fire Department and the review of two service agreements for county departments.
Today’s meeting begins at 9am in the Commission Room on the lower level of the Judicial Center in Independence. The public is invited to attend in person or to view the meeting online via the County’s website.
